Born in Seoul in 1994, Seong Jin Cho
has established himself as one of the foremost pianists
of his generation. Seong Jin began to play the piano
at the age of six and gave his first public recital when he
was eleven years old. In September 2008, the fourteen-year-old Seong Jin
appeared at the VI International Frйdйric Chopin Competition
in Moscow, taking 1st prize. In November 2009 he won 1st prize
and the special prize for a performance of a work by
a Japanese composer at the VII Hamamatsu International Piano
Competition in Japan. In July 2011 he won 3rd prize at the XIV
International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia.
Seong Jin has performed with the Mariinsky Orchestra under
the baton of maestro Valery Gergiev and the Seoul
Philharmonic Orchestra under Myung Whun Chung. Seong Jin has appeared with
the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra,
the Orchestre de Radio France, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin,
the Lucerne Festival Strings, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra,
the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Korean Symphony Orchestra,
the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra
in Sapporo and the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has given recitals at venues including the Tokyo Opera City
Hall, the Osaka Symphony Hall, the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky
Theatre in St Petersburg and the Great Hall of the Moscow
Conservatoire.
Seong-Jin has toured throughout Japan, Russia, Germany, China
and the USA and taken part in numerous music festivals,
among them Musical Kremlin (Russia), the Castleton Festival (USA),
the Great Mountains International Music Festival and School
(South Korea), the Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music (South
Korea) and the LXV and LXVII Chopin Festivals
in Duszniki-Zdrуj (Poland).
