Svetlana Monchak (Soprano)
Svetlana Monchak graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov
Conservatoire (Chorus Conducting Department, 2001; Vocal Department, 2008). She
joined the Mikhailovsky Opera in 2008. At the Mikhailovsky Theatre, she
performed Marfa in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Tsar’s Bride (productions by Stanislav
Gaudasinsky and Andrey Moguchy), Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème (production by
Arnaud Bernard), Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Gilda in Verdi’s
Rigoletto (productions by Stanislav Gaudasinsky), and the vocal part of Nike the
Goddess in the ballet Spartacus. She participated in the concert performances of
Bizet’s Carmen (Frasquita, Micaëla) under the baton of Vasily Petrenko,
Puccini’s Manon Lescaut (madrigal) and Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) under
the baton of Mikhail Tatarnikov, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Snow Maiden (Snow Maiden)
under the baton of Dmitri Jurowski, and Donizetti’s Don Pasquale (Norina) under
the baton of Valentin Bogdanov. She participated in master classes held by Elena
Obraztsova (2008), Badri Maisuradze (2009), Richard Barker (2013), Giulio Zappa
(2014), and others. She performed the soprano part in Il Canto Sospeso by Luigi
Nono, fragments from Puccini’s La Boheme (Mimì), Bellini’s Norma (Norma), and
Gounod’s Roméo and Juliette (Juliette). Her répertoire also includes Norina in
Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Lyudmila in Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila. She has
performed with Giuseppe Sabbatini, Ilan Volkov, Daniele Rustioni, Fabio
Mastrangelo, E. le Duke Baron, and other renowned conductors.
Nowadays, at the Mikhailovsky Theatre she performs leading soprano parts in
the operas by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi,
Gaetano Donizetti, Antonín Dvořák, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Boris Asafiev. She
also performs vocal parts in the ballets Prelude and Multiplicity. Forms of
Silence and Emptiness by Nacho Duato.
