Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) (Ballet company)
The dancers of Nederlands Dans Theater 1 are well known for their great class
and virtuosity. They are at the top of their dance career and know as no other
how to get the company's repertoire across to the audience. Together with the
famous resident choreographers Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leуn, various guest
choreographers (like Kyliбn, Pite, Inger, Naharin) and artists from other
disciplines, the dancers create six new ballets per season.
From its home
base in The Hague, the Nederlands Dans Theater produces contemporary dance which
every year tens of thousands of people from all over the world come to enjoy.
The company is led by Artistic Director Paul Lightfoot and consists of two
groups: Nederlands Dans Theater 1 and Nederlands Dans Theater 2, together
staging one hundred and sixty performances a year at home and abroad. Thanks to
Nederlands Dans Theater’s quality, the dance company has been one of the most
important figureheads of Dutch art abroad for years. Since 1989 Sol León and
Paul Lightfoot have worked together producing dance for Nederlands Dans Theater.
They became renowned choreographers and were appointed house choreographers of
Nederlands Dans Theater in 2002. To date, León and Lightfoot have created over
forty productions for the company, for which they have received many dance
awards and which are performed around the world.
