Osvaldo Ferreira (Conductor)
Osvaldo Ferreira is Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Brasília Chamber Orchestra.
Highlights of Osvaldo Ferreira´s 2017/18 season include concerts with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Rheinisch Radio Philharmoniker, Nurnberger Symphoniker, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, Russian State Orchestra, Shanghai and Qingdao Philharmonic in China and Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela.
Osvaldo Ferreira is one of the foremost Portuguese conductors and has executed the largest number of premieres, commissions and recordings of works by contemporary Portuguese and Brazilian composers. He is a regular guest conductor with major orchestras in Portugal, Brazil, Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Italy, South Africa, Venezuela and the United States and has recorded five CDs under the Numérica label.
He also undertook the positions of Artistic Director of the Algarve International Music Festival and Director of the Faro Municipal Theater. During his tenure as Musical Director of the Algarve Orchestra, he conducted the complete Masses and Requiem of Mozart, as well as the full cycles of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven Symphonies and opera performances including Mozart´s, Cosi fan Tutte, D. Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro. Whilst conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve, Osvaldo performed concerts in Vienna, Lisbon, Brussels, London, Sevilla and Curitiba.
Osvaldo completed his Masters in Orchestral Conducting in Chicago and post-graduate studies at the Conservatory of St. Petersburg, where he was a student of Ilya Mussin. He received the "Fellowship” from the Aspen Music Festival in the USA, where he attended the American Conductors Academy under the artistic direction of David Zinman. He was assistant of Claudio Abbado in Berlin and Salzburg and was a scholar of the Ministry of Culture and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Portugal.
