Yuki Miyagi (Conductor)

Mr. Miyagi was born in Osaka in 1944. A Bachelor of Commerce graduate of Hitotsubashi University, and a major in postgraduate marketing at Kingston College in England, he began studying conducting at the age of fifty under Kazuharu Shirakawa, Kurt Redel, Horst Stein, Ivan Fischer, and Ondrei Renaut.
In 2000 he made his debut in Europe conducting for the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. The following year he had a successful concert with the same orchestra at Wiener Musikverein. Since then he has been guest conducting every year for such orchestras as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, and Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, winning high evaluation each time. In Japan he has had great successes with Shinsei Japan Symphony Orchestra (present Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra) at Suntory Hall, Münchiner Symphoniker, and the prestigious Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2006 he was invited to the Piestiani Music Festival followed by a much talked about Brahms Memorial Concert performing an all Brahms program in a city associated with Brahms. He also had a joint concert with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and Koho Uno for two consecutive years which were both very well received.
In 2007 he conducted for the Super World Orchestra, and in July of the same year he conducted for the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra during the White Night Festival, which the European audience appraised highly.
In May of 2008 he took part for the first time in Budapest Concert Orchestra's regular concert, and in August he performed in 'PROM IN PRAHA' with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra at the Smetana Hall in Prague. In Japan he has performed with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie and Leningrad State Opera Orchestra, and the the premiere performance of Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 at Hitotsubashi University Kanematsu Auditorium in December was said to be the ultimate 'Pathetic Symphony' by the orchestra and audience with his passionate conducting.
The word on the excellent performance spread across the world for him to be invited to the 'Music Collection' festival to conduct the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra in June 2009, successfully winning the hearts of the Russian people.
With the Nurnberger Symphoniker, he led them to successful concert tours in Osaka and Tokyo after his stage with them in Germany in 2009. In the summer of 2010 he was invited back to the Sofia Music Weeks in Bulgaria where he successfully conducted. Also in 2010 he was assigned as the resident conductor for a professional orchestra, Kunitachi Symphoniker whose residence is a historical cultural heritage, Kanematsu Auditorium of Hitotsubashi University where Mr. Miyagi studied and commemorated its 135 year anniversary in October. He conducted for their two regular concerts, which were all very well received. In April 2012 he debuted in the U.K. conducting for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. Followed successful concert at Dvorak hall in Praha conducting Praha Symphony orchestra in June 2012. Mr. Miyagi is appointed as a jury on 20th international J. Brahms competition in Portschach Austria piano section 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017. He is invited by Slovakia Sinfornietta in Zilina Slovakia on Nov 2013, and it was very successful. And influenced by highly appreciated critic by Slovakia media, he is invited again on their 2015 March 5th regular concert to conduct J.Brahms piano concerto No.2 with Jan Simon pianist, symphony No.3 Scotland.
He conducted Beethoven 9th symphony with Kunitachi Symphoniker 9th regular concert in Dec 2014 and 2015. 2017 Oct special concert “Brahms abend” to celebrate his 20yers conducting debut at Suntory hall. Reviews on Mr. Miyagi's conducting activities around the world are steadily heightening. Music generated from Mr. Miyagi's highly spiritual philosophy on life and his unique aesthetics is awakening new inspirations to listeners of his music.
