Andre Lash (Organist)

Is currently organist at Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he presides at Fisk Op.82, the final organ voiced by Charles Fisk before that builder’s death. He holds the degree Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he was a student of the late Russell Saunders. Other important teachers have included Arthur Poister in the United States and Jose-Luis Gonzalez Uriol in Spain. Harpsichord studies were with Lenora McCroskey. He has competed in the final rounds of the University of Michigan International Competition and the Concours de la Ville de Biarritz in France. He has appeared at various venues in the continental U.S., Hawaii and the Republic of Korea, at regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists and at national conventions of the Music Teachers’ National Association. His solo repertoire includes literature of all style periods, but he is particularly conversant with rarely performed music of the Spanish Baroque.

As a collaborative performer, Dr. Lash has appeared with cellist Alan Black playing original literature for cello and organ. Equally comfortable as church musician, solo recitalist, accompanist and teacher, Dr. Lash has served in academic positions at various schools in the disciplines of both organ performance and Music Theory, most recently at the University of Georgia (2002-2005). He has prepared students for national and international competitions, for employment as church musicians, and for all levels of professional examination by the American Guild of Organists, in which he is a Fellow (F.A.G.O) and in which he has served as both a local and regional officer.

His recent compact disc “Gallic in Greensboro”, featuring French organ repertoire, was recorded on Fisk Op.82; one British reviewer described the recording as “highly recommended for first class playing of French music on an appropriate instrument".
