Alexander Lipay (Flute)
Alexander Lipay studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1989 - 1995 with Prof. Seregina (piano) and Prof. Vavilina (flute). After graduation he moved to the USA to continue studies at W. Wilson Middle School (Clifton, NJ) and then at Garfield High School (Seattle, WA). Since 2001 Alexander is a student of the University of California, Santa Barbara; his major teachers are Prof. Jill Felber (flute) and Prof. Paul Berkowitz (piano).
Besides, in 2001 - 2004 he took master classes with Timothy Day, Bradley Garner, Marianne Gedigian, Jean-Michel Tanguy, James Walker, Carol Wincenc, and studied with Sir James Galway in Switzerland.
Lipay is a prize-winner of several competitions held in the USA, his latest success was the First Prize at the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Young Artist National Competition which took place in Kansas City (USA) in 2004.
In 1997 - 2001 Alexander was a principal flutist for Garfield School Symphony Orchestra and Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, then continued with the UCSB Symphony Orchestra, and since 2003 he is a principal flutist for Cascade Symphony Orchestra in Seattle, WA. Besides, he performed as a soloist with various orchestras. In addition, Alexander is an enthusiastic chamber musician playing various recitals with woodwind quartet, quintet and other ensembles.
Recently Alexander joined the Master in Music program at the Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California.
