Alexei Tanovitski (Bass)

Alexei Tanovitski was born in Minsk. He graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. He has performed at the Mariinsky Theatre since 1999.

The singer’s concert repertoire includes the bass roles in Prokofiev’s oratorio Ivan the Terrible, Shostakovich’s Thirteenth and Fourteenth Symphonies, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony and Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Musorgsky’s vocal series Songs and Dances of Death and Shostakovich’s Suite to Words by Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Together with the Mariinsky Opera Company Alexei Tanovitski has toured to Italy (La Scala), Great Britain (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden), France (Théàtre du Châtelet, Opéra Bastille), Spain (Teatro Real), Portugal (Teatro São Carlos), Finland (Turku, Helsinki, Mikkeli Festival), Japan (Suntory Hall, Bunka Kaikan), Germany (Festspiele Baden-Baden), Austria (Salzburg Festival), the Netherlands (Diaghilev Festival), Israel, South Korea, China and Lithuania. Alexei Tanovitski has also appeared with the Mariinsky Opera Company at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas (as Wotan in Der Ring des Nibelungen, 2007), the Metropolitan Opera in New York (as Wotan in Der Ring des Nibelungen, 2007), Carnegie Hall (as Farlaf in Ruslan and Lyudmila, Father Frost in The Snow Maiden and Konchak in Prince Igor, 2007; the King of Clubs in The Love for Three Oranges, 2008), the Deutsche Oper in Berlin (as Khovansky in Khovanshchina, 2008), the Kennedy Center in Washington (as Varlaam in Boris Godunov and Khovansky in Khovanshchina, 2010).
