The star of a monumental concert for Sioux Falls Saturday night was the petite violin virtuoso, Midori. Her slight frame belies the magnitude of her music. Midori, 36, doesn't just play, she feels the pieces she performs.

Goto Midori (known throughout the arts world just as Midori) was born in Osaka (Japan) and began studying the violin at a very early age. When Midori was eleven, she was heard by Zubin Mehta, who immediately invited her as a guest soloist for the New York Philharmonic's traditional New Year's Eve concert. Following the concert, she received a standing ovation and the impetus to begin a major career.
Over the course of her career Midori has performed with many outstanding musicians, among them violinist Vadim Repin, pianist Robert MacDonald and conductors Mariss Jansons, Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado and Christoph Eschenbach.
In 1992 Midori founded Midori & Friends, a non-profit organization in New York which brings music education programs to thousands of underprivileged children each year. Two other organizations, Music Sharing, based in Japan, and Partners in Performance, based in the U.S., also bring music closer to the lives of people who may not otherwise have involvement with the arts.
Midori currently lives in Los Angeles. She performs on the 1734 Guarnerius del Gesu "ex-Huberman", which is on lifetime loan to her from the Hayashibara Foundation.

Pianist Charles Abramovic, graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia) and the Peabody Conservatory and Professor of Music at Temple University's Boyer College of Music (Philadelphia), has won international acclaim for his performances as a soloist and chamber musician. He gives solo recitals throughout the USA, Canada and Europe, appearing with leading instrumentalists of the present day, among them violinists Midori, Sarah Chang, Viktoria Mullova, violist Kim Kashkashian and flautist Jeffrey Khaner. Charles Abramovic has recorded numerous CDs with Sarah Chang (EMI Classics) and Jeffrey Khaner (Avie Records), as well as a CD of works by contemporary composers for CRI, Bridge and Koch International Classics.
